Textiles By Teal Reusable Snack Bags Review and Giveaway

My Experience:
When I first saw Textile by Teal's reusable bags I was curious... how could they not get soggy and gross? I was pretty anxious to get my hands on some of them . I wanted to try them out for myself because I  have been  recycling and a greenie before being green was cool. I use cloth shopping bags and have for over 30 years. But the concept of cloth reusable sandwich bags was something really new to me. So I contacted Teal and asked her about her company and how she got started, Teal had seen something like what she makes now and thought they were great so she played with the concept until she found something that worked and has been using them every since. Actually she has only bought one box of sandwich bags (her Mr. isn't into the cloth bag thing) since she made hers. That brought it all home for me...will I get my Mr. to use them? So when I looked for the bag I wanted to get, I chose it with him in mind ,I  picked this pattern:
Set of 3 Reusable Bags
I wanted a pretty pattern for me but something not too fluffy because I wanted to get the Mr. to try them out  and frankly I didn't think I would get him to try the turtles or birdies. When they arrived, I thought that Teal's presentation was lovely and that this would make a great gift.Three come in the set, one for sandwiches, one for fruit or other larger items and a small one for cookies  or smaller snacks. I played with the bags a little, they are tough and I was surprised to find that parachute material lining...hmmmmm that is how they keep from being gross...I showed them to Richard and asked if he would be willing to use something like this for work and he said sure! He thought the pattern was pretty cool and he did not see a problem with using them. WOW!

But the true test would be using them and I put them through the gamete.I packed my husband and I a snack to take with us. We were going to be out all day and I wanted to see how these would hold up. I made us  PB&J sandwiches and put them in the largest one The both fit nicely. Then I stuffed the smallest one full pickle spears and the medium size with celery ,carrots and grape tomatoes. I put them all in my husbands lunch bag and off we went.

The  peanut butter and jelly that escaped the sandwiches stayed with in the confines of their bag and the vegi's stayed fresh, using these bags for pickles was not a good idea. When we got home I took them to the kitchen and washed them up in the kitchen sink using a drop of dish soap in the basin then I drip dried them in the strainer. Even the pickle juiced one washed up great. I am  pretty stoked about having these bags not only because the savings over plastic is going to be phenomenal but I also will be a little more green, less plastic in the land fills is always a plus!

Tanya's Experience:
I was so excited when informed that we had a chance to review Textile By Teal reusable bags. I, like Kim, also love bags I can reuse. It seems I can never have too many reusable totes. But I had NEVER thought of reusable "baggies". For me review I chose this pattern:

which came in a set of three (all different sizes). I really loved a number of the different patterns they offered and had a hard time choosing one. When I received my bags the first thing I loved was the overall simple pretty packaging and presentation.

I couldn't wait to use them, but almost didn't have the heart to take the ribbon off of them. The first thing I tried with them was simply organizing my purse. Well, maybe it wasn't all that simple...you haven't seen my purse. The various sizes were great for my loose makeup, medications, cell phone, sunglasses, and coupons for my trip to the store. Worked out perfectly. My second test was packing a simple lunch to take with me to my mom's house. I packed my sandwich, wheat thins, and grapes. They were just the right sizes for these items. No muss, no fuss. Next was my durability test. I poured all of our change we had saved up in our change jar into the largest bag, sealed it and turned it upside down.

NOTHING fell out. The Velcro held it all. Not even the slightest opening. More than I can say for regular store bought sandwich bags. Last was my cleaning test. This I was a bit skeptical about. How in the world do you clean cloth lined reusable bags? EASY! I simply used hot water mixed with liquid dish washing detergent. I washed them inside and out and laid them out to dry. I would definitely recommend these to anyone on the go. Not only are they attractive, durable and very versatile, they are also reasonably priced. They are something I will definitely purchase in the future for myself and as gifts!

Nielsen.Massey Vanillas ~Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Review and Giveaway

Nielsen-Massey Vanillaspure vanilla extract, vanilla flavorings, vanilla beans, vanilla powder and paste, gourmet flavorings by Nielsen-Massey Vanillas

From birth vanilla has always been a staple in my home, my mother was an extraordinary cook, she was a simple do it from scratch housewife that grew up in the midwest on a big working farm. however my first memories of Vanilla was when I was about 6 years old, when my baby brother  happily danced and sang on the dinning room table as he drank the entire bottle of extract , for some reason that image will live with me forever, also vanilla became magical and intriguing to me.

As a mom and housewife, I didn't give much thought to vanilla. I bought and used the same brands my mother did. I use it in everything, coffee, various dishes and even as a room scent. I found when I was going through chemo that a small bowl of vanilla extract with a bean scraped in it settled my queasy tummy.. everything made me sick back then, even someone taking a shower. So this magical bean was so welcome...

Then I discovered Neilsen Massey Vanillas and I read the history of the vanilla bean I was immediately hooked and intrigued. I love history and am always thrilled when I find out something new, especially when it is about something so familiar. I learned that Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract is from the Bourbon Islands and that is how it get's it's name. I also discovered that even though the Aztecs were the first to discover the Vanilla Bean Madagascar is the largest producer of vanilla beans in the world!
When the bottle of Madagascar Bourbon  arrived I opened it and smelled it, the smell was the same yet slightly different from what I was used to. Then, I went and got the bottles I had in my cupboard and wow was there a huge difference in the smells and I now know which one I will NEVER buy again!

I wanted to try it in something I love that would show case it's flavor so I decided to make home made ice cream. I also wanted to try the do it yourself in the zip lock bag version to see how easy it really was to do.

What I used
2 Tbsp (3 packets) Splenda sugar substitute
1 c. Half & Half
6 tablespoons rock salt
1 pint sized plastic food bag ( you want the one's with the zippers)
1 gallon sized plastic food bag.( you want the one's with the zippers)
Ice Cubes

Here is how I did it:
Fill the gallon sized bag half full of ice, add the rock salt zip it closed and set it aside.
Then I put the milk,                                                                                                                              vanilla and sweetener in the quart sized bag and zip it closed.
Then I placed the smaller bag into the larger bag with the ice and rock salt and zipped it up again
Then we shook it It got really cold, so we took turns
It took about 10 minutes of shaking the bags for it to freeze and form into the consistency I wanted.
Doing it this way would be really fun for kids, and you can cut the recipe in half so each child shakes their own treat. When I opened it up there was little bits of salt rock stuck to the bag so have something to wipe it off handy. Then I scooped it out and it was scoopable!

This recipe made two servings, I added stewed apples for an added treat.
Then we took our first taste The only way I can describe this experience is WOW! We savored every bite. The difference in the flavors of what I have always used and Neilsen Massey's Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract. Is HUGE! There is defiantly a difference in the quality  and you can tell by it's scent and flavor. For the rest of the evening my husband and I relished and chatted about the smooth comforting flavor of this vanilla. Today, my husband asked if I can figure out something that we can use vanilla in with supper,my husband is a picky eater and saying that he is hooked is really saying a lot.

Nielsen.Massey Vanillas has a whole line of products and they have a few I want to get so I am going to have to get on some mail order lists because I have found the vanilla I will use for the rest of my life.

Nielsen.Massey Vanillas has kindly offered a bottle of Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract for one of our readers.  Give us your name and email address and your ENTERED! Then do some or all of the optional entries, it's that easy!

FAN APPRECIATION! ~~DeGroot Orchards Pack Giveaway!~~ 200+ FOLLOWERS!(Open to U.S., CANADA & U.K.)

I promised you a special giveaway once we hit 200 people and we have met that goal!

I thought about what would be a special treat for you, something anyone would love to have. hmmmm and then it hit me. I had told you a few weeks ago about DeGroot Orchards and those wonderful caramels we had purchased when we went. So I got the Mr. up and we drove the almost 30 miles there to get these treats for you.

Today was the perfect fall day to go, a chill was in the air, but not so cold where it was uncomfortable. Slightly over cast, yes today was the perfect, Go to the Apple Orchard Day!

As I drove I remembered the same trips I made on days like this with my mother and sisters. Only back then, we got to pick the apples ourselves which was so much fun. Then my mind drifted to what seemed like yesterday when we made these trips out with our own children to get apples. Fall meant, apple sauce, apple jelly, apple pies, stewed apples and apple dumplings. The house was filled with the apple spicy sent that so many of us try to replicate with candles and cans of air freshener. Being an empty nester, I still do some of the preserving but not nearly as much as before...it kind of sucks not having young people around that wants to gobble up the treats as fast as I could make them...So on we went. I was pretty thrilled knowing I was going to get stuff for you guys.
I knew I was there because I started to see the trees laden with apples, then the sign and the turn to go in.
Just beyond the sign is the pumpkin patch and the building not far behind that. It is so familiar to us, we have been coming here for the last 15 years. Like most people we just stopped in picked what we wanted, paid and left. Not really taking the time to get to know the people that ran the place. Our lives have always been too busy. But the last time I was there, I stopped and chatted. I asked if I could write about them in our blog. Why? Because when you come to the DeGroot's Orchard, you feel welcome. You feel like your stopping in to see family and you are treated with warmth and consideration. It is an old fashioned family owned and operated farm with old fashioned values. It feels like you are coming home when you walk in.
When you pull up you are greeted with an array of Gourds

Squash and Pumpkins
You can even pick your own!

Inside you find the apples of course
And an assortment of other locally produced items like honey, caramel apple kits and home made knit hats

Then there are some of the best preserves I have had, that I did not make myself. I suppose that is because they are Grama's.
I also discovered hedge fruit
this amazing gourd will keep spiders and other nasty crawly things away from your house...

Then there was some pretty sweet Gourd art and bird houses. there is a table filled with bags of seconds ( not first rate apples) due to hail damage. In fact, this year and the most popular apple Honey Crisps were hard hit so the crop was small and they are sold out...darn....

But the real treat is meeting Cindy, she and her husband Tom own and operate the orchard and farm which has been in the family for over 70 years since Grandpa Antone DeGroot first established the business. It hasn't been all apple blossoms and pumpkin pies for this family, they have worked hard, in fact the whole thing got wiped out in 1940 and Mr. DeGroot had to start it all from the beginning. His main crop was apple trees and strawberries. They now raise corn, and soybeans as well as the 38 acres filled with 22 varieties of apples.

Cindy moved to the farm when Tom got out of the Army in 1971. He brought his wife home with him and they  have been there every since. Cindy laughs because, at that time she only knew that apples were red or green, but now she is a pro! When Tom's parent's passed away the business became theirs and one day it will pass on to their only son Todd who also works with them.

Cindy is truly modest and had a hard time tooting her own horn as she says, her gift is making you feel welcome and guiding you effortlessly through the world of apples always with a warm sweet smile on her face. I saw no one walk out with out munching on a sample and a bag of apples under their arm.

When I saw the people in the back room I asked if they were family she said no they were friends and neighbors, Fay Kurpequeit , "Mac" Bruce Maclarin and Hans  but she quickly added we are Blessed they are more family then helpers to us.

In the back room they sort and bag the apples and put them out to sell. Normally the DeGroots have cider but the machine broke so none this year..maybe next?

On our first visit we bought some caramels, they had to be the best I have ever had. Cindy says that the girl that produces them, makes them to order so they are the freshest best quality always.

I loved them so much that as my thank you for following us, one person will win a box full of them. Also in the gift pack is 2 Color My Trip to the  Orchard coloring books, a bottle of local honey and some of Grama's Apple Butter.... I wanted to send you some of the wonderful apples, but frankly that wasn't going to be easy to send.

The rules of this giveaway are simple enter and win! the winner has 48 hours to respond to the notification email before a new winner is chosen THANK YOU for reading and following us and HAPPY BLOGGING!
